Deciding what to take with you is such an exhausting and tiring process. So today I have put together a complete list of what to pack in your bag while traveling. After all, no matter where you go, certain elements of your packing list will never change.
1. Travel bag
• Suitcase/backpack/luggage
My personal preference is the spinner luggage. It is convenient, fashionable, easy to handle and carry around and it comes in all sizes and colors. Of course, you can choose whatever travel bag you want. Just make sure that your bag has enough space for you to pack everything you need.
• Day bag
Choose this bag wisely as it will become your ‘traveling companion’. A small backpack or a shoulder bag would be nice. Or just choose a bag that is light-weight and convenient so that you can carry around all day.

• Pouches/packing cubes
These are useful items for you to organize your luggage thoughtfully. Categorize your belongings and pack them in packing cubes so that you’ll have more spaces to spare.
2. The Essentials
- Passport
- Medical prescription (if you have one)
- Medicine and vitamin
- Health insurance card
- Reservation confirmations

3. Clothing
- Underwear
Choose quick-drying undies and do rinse a pair each night in your hotel sink. Unless you’re someone who travels on a daily basis, do bring disposable underwear briefs. They are especially great for long-term traveling.
- Socks
- Jacket
Unless your destination is somewhere cold and icy, I suggest bringing a waterproof windbreaker. It is compact as you can pack it into its pocket, and it is idealistic for warm and tropical weather.
- Shirts
- T-shirts
Bring plenty of t-shirts if you’re heading to somewhere tropical. Usually, five would be enough.
Do pay attention to the material while choosing your shirts. I usually would go with cotton, since it is lightweight, quick-drying, comfortable, and breathable.
- Long-sleeved shirts
Button-down shirts are your top choice, especially hiking shirts. They look decent and make great nightwear clothing.
- Pants
-Chinos
-Shorts
- Sneakers
Bring two pairs. One is your nightwear shoes, a pair of shoes that can be dressed-up. Another one is your walking shoes, something that you can walk comfortably around all day.
- Pajamas
Pack your pajamas too so that you can change into something comfy once you go to sleep.
- Hat
- Sunglasses
4. Toiletries:
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
You can take either a full-sized one or a travel-sized one. They make not much of a difference regarding space and weight. Of course, the downside of travel-sized toothpaste tubes is that they only last a few days.
- Bar soap
- Shampoo and shower gel
Bring your favorite brands in travel-sized containers. You can leave even them at home if you want. Unless you’re staying in a hotel, then do bring your shampoo and shower gel.
- Deodorant
- Shaving cream
- Razor(s)
- Comb
- Hand sanitizer
Use this while you are on public transportation. You don’t want to catch germs or get sick during your expensive trip, do you?
- Tissues
- Bandages
Pack a few different sizes for nicks and scrapes. After all being careful is not a waste of time.
- Cotton buds
5. Sundries
- Sun cream
- Reusable shopping bags
They are quite handy and versatile. You can use them to store litter, your dirty clothes, etc.
6. Electronics
- Mobile phone
One of many things that you cannot leave at home. Always carry your phone with you, especially while traveling. Phones these days all have GPS and map so carry them around so that you won’t get lost.
- Tablet/laptop
If you’re not traveling for business or you don’t have any plan to blog, then I would consider leaving this at home. Bringing your smartphone is quite enough.
- Camera
Most people travel with a Canon or a Nikon. However, if you’re someone who prefers taking pictures with your phone, then I suggest you should leave your camera at home.
- Power strip
- Plug adapter
7. My tips
- While packing for traveling, bring both daywear and nightwear.
- Don’t over pack. Only pack what you really need.
- Make a checklist of everything you need, then go through everything again.
- Don’t be panicked if you suddenly realize that you have left one or two items at home. If it is your passport that you forget then do get panicked. Or else, pretty much anything can be bought at nearby convenience stores.
- You will look trendier if you coordinate your outfit. As a general rule of thumb, don’t use more than 3 colors in your outfit. You should also use the right color schemes for your skin tone.
- Almost every hotel will offer you free combs, towels, toothbrushes, razors, shower caps, towels, etc. So, do consider omit a few items if your bag is too packed.
